only noise with ECG/EMG Shield

Hi all,

I've bought the ECG/EMG Shield together with the electrodes cable and all I get is only noise.
I'm using it with an arduino uno REV 3 and the ElecGuru software.

Instead of seeing a heart curve in the upper part, there is only noise with constant amplitude.
Changing the places of the electrodes doesn't help.

Is the device defective or did I miss anything important?
Any help welcome.

Max

Did you check this post: https://www.olimex.com/forum/index.php?topic=572.0#msg2180? We haven't tried the shield with Arduino UNO R3 so far but judging by this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15D6zbXlQ4c) it should work.

What kind of noise do you receive? Maybe send me a couple of screenshots from ElecGuru.

Did you follow the installation instructions in the manual: https://www.olimex.com/Products/Duino/Shields/SHIELD-EKG-EMG/resources/SHIELD-EKG-EMG-Revision-C.pdf.

Hello LubOlimex,

thank you for your quick reply.
Yes I followed the manual step by step and I would assume, that the connection between Arduino and the shield and also to the PC is ok, since ElectricGuru is able to show something. I suspect that something in the analoque part is wrong.
I've prepared a screenhot, but I don't find a way to upload it.
Please help

Max

Just upload it to some photo-sharing web site and then provide the link in your next reply. You can use http://imgur.com//, for instance. Navigate to upload images computer and select the screenshot you mentioned.

Hi,

I replied to a mail from Lub on Feb. 22nd, where I attached a screenshot.
Unfortunately I'm still waiting for an Answer.
In the following thread is a screenshot, that looks exactly as mine:

Is there no solution to this kind of problem?

Hey Markus,

Sorry for the delay.

1. What happens when you disconnect the electrodes completely and you run Elec Guru again – does it show straight line or some noise again?
2. How do you place the electrodes – one in front of the elbow of left arm, the second in front of the elbow of right arm, DRL electrode held in hand?

Some users have showed progress with Arduino UNO R3. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuGDnuqZqu8 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15D6zbXlQ4c

I am having the same problem with my Arduino Uno rev3. I tried using other people's code...the only thing that gets it to look remotely acceptable is the following visualizer:
https://mega.co.nz/#!V1BGBRiC!PXVXyzFHln5-yeulstJlSW7AnNsbKL3UXtWwdrxkDKM

Check out youTube video here:

The problem is that I just want the raw data of the ECG in a CSV, so even the visualizer is not that helpful. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks all!

Hey leitneeb,

Did you try with the Arduino code provided by Olimex: https://www.olimex.com/Products/Duino/Shields/SHIELD-EKG-EMG/resources/ShieldEkgEmgDemo.zip? When you open the file there are instructions on the top of the code.

It should work with all Arduino boards.
