Hello,
Is the PIC ICD2 Pocket programmer capable of programming PIC-IO and PIC-LCD?
Both these boards have an ICSP header. My laptop has only usb ports and no serial RS-232.
I have previously bought the PIC PG-1 programmer only to find out that this does not work when using a usb to serial adapter.

Thank you,
Daithi

Hello, Daithi!

I did few tests of PIC-ICD2-Pocket with PIC-LCD on various of computers and I concluded that it works on Windows XP but not on Windows 7 (PIC-ICD2 isn't even connected). So it is somehow related with the version of the Windows. And after searching about the problem in the web I found this thread: http://www.microchip.com/forums/m245357.aspx

As for PIC-IO it is dependable on the microprocessor you are using. Check features section on this link https://www.olimex.com/Products/PIC/Development/PIC-IO/

QuoteICSP/ICD connector for programming with PIC-MCP-USB, PIC-MCP or PIC-PG1, PIC-PG2, PIC-PG3, PIC-PG4 and debugging with PIC-ICD2, PIC-ICD2-POCKET, PIC-ICD2-TINY(* for the PICs with ICD support)

But for sure PIC-KIT3 is much better option for these microcontrollers (as for many other) since PIC-ICD2 doesn't have support for MPLABX (http://www.microchip.com/forums/tm.aspx?high=&m=581917&mpage=1#615401). So if you haven't buy the programmer yet I recommend you PIC-KIT3 since it is more reliable.
