Hello,
I have bought another open hardware breadboard - pine64 - and i want to buy https://www.olimex.com/Products/OLinuXino/LCD/LCD-OLinuXino-15.6/open-source-hardware this LCD screen to connect with it..
Do you think it will work?

Hey,

The displays are plug-and-play only when paired Olimex Allwinner boards. You can use them with other hardware but doing so would require significantly more effort to setup.

It can work but it will not be plug-and-play for sure. It will not work out-of-the-box. You would need to use wires for the hardware connections, and you would need certain software modifications in order to get it working properly.

You mentioned it is "another open hardware breadboard" - can you point me to the pcb files so I can take a look and give you more specific advice.

Thank you for the reply..
I was talking about this board https://www.pine64.org/?page_id=1194 and until reading your post i was a bit confused as I was thinking it was open hardware.
Visiting this site http://www.cnx-software.com/2016/03/01/raspberry-pi-3-odroid-c2-and-pine-a64-development-boards-comparison/ it says:
QuoteDocumentation is available on Pine64 Wiki http://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/Main_Page.Schematics (PDF), and datasheet for all main chips including Allwinner A64 datasheet have been released http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/11/10/allwinner-a64-datasheet-and-user-manual-released/. PCB layout and Gerber files are not available, which makes the board closed source.
I was also confused that raspberry was openhardware board..I am new to this community and there are many boards and microcontrollers that i am a bit lost.
So the answer to my question is that it could be but i have to play a bit with the connections.
Thanks!

Raspberry Pi is only partly open - mainly the software.

ARM cpus are (AFAIK) never open hardware.

For most people these seem not to matter or they cannot find a better viable alternative.

Yes. It is doable but would require some effort.

This is mainly because we specifically design the displays for our boards. A lot of customers wanted to use displays with out boards so we designed such displays. These are easy to use with our boards both software and hardware wise. Yet, there is no unified universal standard for the layout of the connector that works with this type of displays, and we just made a connector that made sense for our designs. So with another piece of hardware you would need to use wires to establish the same hardware connections. Furthermore, you would need to add software support in the Linux image that is recommended for your board (in our official images we have support for the displays already enabled).
