Maxi board not powering up

I bought a Maxi board yesterday. I used a 12V 500mA power supply. I prepared an SD card for use as per instructions in the getting started. When I insert the SD card and the give power, I press the power button (push type) on the RHS of the board. No display, though a red led comes up when connecting the power adapter, the green does not come on ? Can somebody guide

you need cable which to connect to the console to see the messages there, this will give you hint what is wrong
